  1. School Visit

James has been out and about again this time to his old school, this time donating masks to teachers and students to keep them all safe under the new guidelines set by the government. He met with Andrew Nockton who was one of James’s old teachers and member of leadership. Here at Workplace we are doing our best to keep the schools and other workplaces as safe as we can and hope we can build a strong relationship with the school in the future.

  2. Workplace Equipment Store - Hospice Donations

Hi all, as we all know this year has been beyond difficult and has meant we’ve all had to come together to support and look out for each other. No one could have predicted what the people have done to keep everyone safe and spirits high, and here at Workplace Equipment Store we are no different. Today (05/11/2020) James Mellish (Sales Manager) and Paul Diggins (Managing Director) have been out and about with over 2500 medical grade face masks and hand sanitisers, they visited and donated these to 2 local hospices. St Mary’s is a hospice dedicated to the care and support for patients with life limiting illnesses and also support the families around the patients. This was our first stop today. As we all know the most at risk are those of us who have underlying illnesses and we felt like we should do what we can to support those looking after this group of people and the work they do . Then we stopped by Acorns Children’s Hospice, like St Mary’

  4. Derma Shield: Health and Safety in Catering

Health and safety in catering is important for everyone working in the industry. Out of all the health and safety issues facing catering staff, contact dermatitis and dry skin are perhaps two of the most prevalent health problems. The UK Health and Safety Executive state that the number of new cases of work-related contact dermatitis for those working in the catering industry is twice that of the average level found in all industries. It is also noted that the cost to the employer of resolving incidences of employee contact dermatitis can end up being twice as much as the cost of an accident resulting in physical injury*.

  5. Sun Protection for Outdoor Workers

Ultraviolet (UV) rays come from the sun and offer us many benefits. However, when exposed for too long, UV rays are strong enough to damage the skin. 7. New Standard BS 8599-1:2019

BS 8599-1, the British Standard applying to workplace first aid kits, is changing. The existing version, BS 8599-1:2011, has now been withdrawn and replaced by BS 8599-1:2019. Some of these changes are minor, but others are more substantial. In brief, this is what has changed:

    • Two new kit categories have been added to BS8599-1: Personal issue kits and critical injury packs
    • The British Standard travel kit has been altered so it now matches the medium vehicle kit (as per BS8599-2) and has been renamed to 'travel and motoring kit'
    • Minor changes to the quantities of certain components in small, medium and large workplace first aid kits

While manufacturers have been offered a year to switch their products over to the new standard, our suppliers are already working to update our British Standards product range in line with these changes, so you can be sure that any of our products marked as British Standard compliant will still be so. This also means we are introducing new British Standard Personal Issue Kits and Critical Injury Packs.
